This episode is the first of five episodes exploring William Tyndale's use of five words in his translation of the Greek New Testament into English, that resulted in his death at the hands of church leaders. The five words are:
1. Elder instead of Priest
2. Congregation instead of Church
3. Repent instead of Do Penance
4. Acknowledge instead of Confess
5. Love instead of Acts of Charity
Tyndale (1494-1536) was murdered by church officials for refusing to translate these five words the way the church wanted them translated. His refusal to conform to the institutional church's directives, resulted in his death by strangulation, followed by his body being burned. In this episode, we look at his choice of the word Elder as opposed to Priest.
